Why We Chose Clean Ingredients
Maison Du Sud – vie naturelle
At Maison Du Sud, we believe in creating products that are both beautiful and safe. Many conventional laundry detergents contain harsh chemicals that may clean your clothes, but come with hidden risks to your skin, your health, and the environment. Here’s why we chose a better way:
1. Synthetic Fragrances
These are chemically engineered scents, often petroleum-based. They're known to cause allergies, asthma, and skin irritation. Many contain phthalates—hormone-disrupting chemicals—hidden under the generic label “fragrance” or “parfum.”
2. Optical Brighteners
These make clothes appear whiter and brighter but don’t actually clean. They coat fibers, irritate skin, and pollute waterways—posing risks to aquatic life.
3. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) / Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
These are foaming agents that can irritate skin and eyes. SLES is often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a probable carcinogen.
4. Preservatives like Methylisothiazolinone (MIT)
These powerful preservatives can trigger allergic reactions, and have been linked to neurotoxicity in some studies.
5. Dyes and Colorants
Added purely for appearance, synthetic dyes can cause skin irritation and offer no cleaning benefit.
6. Nonylphenol Ethoxylates (NPEs)
These surfactants are endocrine disruptors and are banned in many countries due to their environmental impact.
7. Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (Quats)
Used for fabric softening and disinfection, these are linked to respiratory issues and reproductive toxicity.
8. Phosphates
Once common, phosphates harm aquatic ecosystems by causing algal blooms. Though banned in many places, they still appear in some cleaning products.
9. Microplastics & Encapsulated Fragrance Beads Found in some scent boosters, these beads do not biodegrade and can pollute oceans and harm marine life.
Our formulas skip all of that. We use only safe, bio-based ingredients—like our handcrafted sodium and potassium cocoate—scented with pure essential oils and all natural fragrance oils. Clean should mean truly clean.
